The ShowRoom Hosts Legendary Live Performances, Music Themed Film for The Wave Gathering In Asbury Park

Asbury Park Venue Takes Part in 4th Annual Wave Gathering

ASBURY PARK (June 17, 2009) – The ShowRoom, Asbury Park’s independent cinema and multi-purpose venue, will ride the music-infused Wave in Asbury Park on June 20 and 21. The Cookman Avenue movie theater will take part in the 4th annual Wave Gathering, hosting live performances and offering a music-themed film during the city-wide festival.

On Saturday June 20, The ShowRoom will screen “Tom Dowd and the Language of Music,” profiling the life of one of the music industry’s most acclaimed producers and recording engineers. Michael Sodano and Nancy Sabino will then offer an all-day music affair for Wave Gathering attendees on Sunday, June 21 at The ShowRoom. The afternoon will begin with a second screening of “Tom Dowd and the Language of Music” at 3:30. At 4:45 p.m., immediately following the movie, a special Producer and Songwriter’s Panel will take The ShowRoom stage. Asbury Park musician Rick Barry will then host Writers in Progress with fellow musicians Bess Rogers, Quincy Mumford and Luke Brindley.

“Tom Dowd and the Language of Music” – Directed by Mark Moormann, “Tom Dowd and the Language of Music” documents the exemplary life and talents of a music-industry legend. Dowd is most commonly known for his work as a producer and recording engineer for Atlantic Records. For those keen to the music scene, they may also remember Dowd for being the first to use a multi-track recording system, as well as the first to bring stereo sound to the recording studio. The list of music-industry giants Dowd worked with include: Ray Charles, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Willie Nelson, Otis Redding and a host of other acclaimed musicians and performers. The film profiles his incredible life and legendary work. Admission Fee: $8.00

The Producer and Songwriter’s Panel – For all of those musicians and songwriters looking to hit it big, the Producer and Songwriter’s Panel will offer insights from an acclaimed group of music-industry insiders. The 75-minute discussion will include how to become a better songwriter, studio space, working with producers, collaborating with fellow musicians and more. The panel will include: Arlan Feilies, a solo artist and Tom Dowd protégé; musician, recording engineer and producer Tony Black; Ron Haney of Near Records; former Sony Music artist Alice Leone; and Sean Glonek of SRG Studios. Admission Fee: Single-venue admission to the event is $12.00 without a Wave Gathering wristband.


Writers in Progress Workshop – The ShowRoom’s intimate setting will play host to a group of very talented performers who will share their songwriting process. Rick Barry, Bess Rogers, Quincy Mumford and Luke Brindley will invite the audience into their creative world, allowing listeners to sample new songs and impromptu lyrics. Admission Fee: Single-venue admission to the event is $12.00 without a Wave Gathering wristband.
